As Anastasia and her grandmother escape from persecution, Rasputin attempts to stop them, but he falls through the ice of a river and drowns. The pair attempts to escape Russia on a train, but Anastasia falls off from the train and develops amnesia. Ten years later, a grown-up Anastasia (now called “Anya”) begins her search for the family she can’t remember. Her only clue to the past is a necklace with the words “Together in Paris.” She travels to St. Petersburg with the help of a stray dog named Pooka. There, she meets a pair of conmen: Dimitri and Vlad Vasilovich. The two men are searching for a woman who can pass off as Anastasia so they can collect a reward being offered by the Dowager Empress. When the two men meet Anya, they convince her to join them in their ruse. However, their journey is far from easy as they are pursued by an undead Rasputin awakened by his magical reliquary, his bat minion Bartok, and a host of ghostly demons.
