Queen of the Damned is yet another vampire film based on an Anne Rice novel. Although it is an adaptation of the third book of The Vampire Chronicles series, it contains many elements from the book, The Vampire Lestat. Despite the fact that Aaliyah plays as queen of the entire vampire race and her role is found in the title, Jonathan Townsend is the real star of the movie. He plays the role of Vampire Lestat, a powerful and ancient vampire being both charismatic and arrogant. Most vampires believe they should remain unseen by human eyes, their very existence regarded a as myth. Lestat does not share this belief. Having slept for decades, he is awakened in modern day United States with a burning desire to be known. Despite infuriating other vampires, he establishes himself as a rock star of celebrity status and challenges others of his kind to come forth, using subtle lyrics to validate his authenticity.
