The NFSA celebrated the 40th anniversary of the film with an online exhibition, 'Picnic at Hanging Rock: 40 Years of Mystery', featuring costumes, props, oral history interviews, music, posters, lobby cards, photographs, scripts, oral history interviews and behind-the-scenes production documents and video. Excerpts are taken from reels of 35mm silent colour outtakes, trims of scenes and additional unused material acquired from Martin Sharp, who was credited on the film as 'Artistic Advisor to the Director’.
